President Obama’s Failure to Promote Unity

Great piece by Sam Tanenhaus, “God and Politics, Together Again.” Best I’ve seen on why President Obama’s best efforts to promote unity have largely failed and why he does not connect with large segments of white Christian America. As someone sympathetic to the President, I hope he reads it — and gets it.

    I agree that this is a pretty perceptive essay. And it would be nice, as Russell says, if the President “reads it– and gets it.” But is that possible? (the second part) How could Obama “get it” without becoming a whole different person? And what would he do if he did “get it”? Instruct his speech writers– or at least a few of them out of the legion– to strike a different tone, or put in a few conciliatory phrases? Would this make a difference?
